Hello!, and welcome to the Slow Reading Club for the 2022/2023 C2 Proficiency (CPE) set texts.
If you would like to restore your passion and rhythm for reading books, this is the place for you!
My name is Gabriela Froes and I am an English and Literature teacher. I have a master's degree in English Literature/s and I have taught English Literature both at graduation and post graduation courses.
After losing our concentration and our willingness to enjoy ourselves in this pandemic, my main goal with The Slow Reading Club is to get more people to enjoy reading again.
My goal is merely to make you more interested in reading, and hopefully more trained to understand and enjoy literature. This will certainly help you increase your vocabulary and train your eye to see the beauty in words.
WHAT IS SLOW READING?
"Slow reading is the intentional reduction in the speed of reading, carried out to increase comprehension or pleasure.
The concept appears to have originated in the study of philosophy and literature as a technique to more fully comprehend and appreciate a complex text."

WHAT IS THE SLOW READING CLUB?
Our goal will be to, during the course of 2022, read TWO books: the two set texts for Cambridge C2 Proficiency (CPE) exam.
We will read 2-3 pages a day, together, and learn how to read more critically.
The two books for 2022/2023 are:
David Nicholls: Us
Jane Austen: Northanger Abbey
ANY edition will do.
WHO IS THE CLUB FOR?
Although aimed at C2 Proficiency (CPE) candidates, who can use the books in the Writing paper, Part 2, this club is open to ANYONE who wants to develop reading skills and join a community of teachers while doing so.
If you want to read with us, you are more than welcome : )
HOW WILL THIS WORK?
We will read Us in the first semester of 2022, and Northanger Abbey in the second semester of 2022.
Slowly, with no pressure, and focusing on details in the novels.
If our reading speed increases, there will be a bonus book in the second semester.
HOW CAN I JOIN?
Buy the books and join the Telegram channel.
Taking part is free of charge, and discussions and quizzes with comprehension questions will be posted on a weekly basis.
There will also be monthly meetings to discuss literary aspects.
These are OPTIONAL and the fee is R$ 20 per meeting.
WHEN DO WE START?
We start on January, 3rd, 2022.
Buy the first book and prepare for this experience!
